Another 29-year-old man who was injured by gunfire in the attack had not yet been publicly identified. The incident began around 7 p.m. on Monday, when Mr. Pacheco and three men in a black Cadillac Escalade stopped at a gas station in southeast Houston, according to the Police Department. The four men went inside the gas station, and immediately afterward they returned to the Escalade.

The US carmaker Cadillac is expanding its electric vehicle portfolio. GM, which owns Cadillac, plans to become a fully electric company by 2035. The announcement comes as General Motors continues to ramp up electric vehicle production across all its major brands, including Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC. AdvertisementThe strikes, which were held in September and October of this year, cost General Motors $200 million a week, the BBC reported. EV demand has plateaued in the US auto market this year, as the wave of early-adopters dies out and the electric vehicles remain too expensive for the average buyer.

DETROIT – Cadillac's new entry-level electric vehicle will be a compact-sized crossover called Optiq, the company said Friday. The General Motors brand said the vehicle, which will be its fourth EV, will slot below the current entry-level Lyriq midsize crossover EV, which starts around $59,000. Cadillac declined to disclose pricing and other specifics of the 2025 Optiq, which is expected to go on sale in the U.S. as early as next year. A Cadillac spokesman confirmed Friday that the brand still plans to exclusively offer EVs by 2030, despite slower-than-expected demand for the vehicles. Its parent company, GM, subsequently set a target to exclusively offer EVs by 2035.

UAW union members have been striking over job security and pay as automakers push forward in developing EV’s, which require fewer workers and cost more in raw materials. So what does that mean for the future of auto workers and the union? Illustration: George Downs/The Wall Street JournalThe United Auto Workers expanded its strike against Detroit’s automakers with a walkout at one of General Motors ’ largest and most profitable factories, marking the second straight day of escalation by the union. About 5,000 unionized workers walked out of GM’s Arlington, Texas, assembly plant Tuesday morning, the union said. The plant makes several large sport-utility vehicles, including the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade, which are GM’s highest-profit-margin vehicles globally.

The UAW said another 5,000 workers are going on strike, bringing the total number of UAW members on strike at the Big Three automakers to over 45,000, on day 40 of the strike. The workers took the strike to Arlington Assembly, home to some of GM's most profitable vehicles, the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. The union's strategy of targeted strikes has throttled billions in revenue for the Detroit Three while requiring fewer than half the 150,000 UAW members at the companies to forgo pay and walk picket lines. "It's time GM workers, and the whole working class, get their fair share." But he told UAW members "there is more to be won".

CNN —The United Auto Workers union took its most serious shot yet at General Motors in its five-week old strike as 5,000 members walked off the job at a plant in Texas. Arlington Assembly builds GM’s very profitable full-size SUVs, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. The targeted strike at GM’s largest plant comes just hours after the company reported third quarter earnings, which grew last quarter despite the strike. It’s time GM workers, and the whole working class, get their fair share,” said UAW President Shawn Fain. “GM’s latest offer fails to reward UAW members for the profits they’ve generated,” said the union’s statement.

The company’s earnings per share rose to $2.28, up from $2.25, in the past quarter. The company said that the strike cost it $200 million in its first two weeks of the quarter. The UAW has been on strike against GM as well as rivals Ford and Stellantis since September 15. The targeted strike started with work stoppages at one assembly plant for each of the automakers and 12,700 on strike but has grown since then. There are now more than 40,000 autoworkers on strike, with 9,200 members on strike at GM alone.

DETROIT – The United Auto Workers union on Tuesday expanded its strike against General Motors to a highly profitable full-size SUV plant in Texas — a swift response to healthy profits and record third-quarter revenue for the automaker. The walkout came just hours after the automaker reported third-quarter earnings results that beat Wall Street's expectations. As we've said for months: record profits equal record contracts," said UAW President Shawn Fain in a statement. Fain's claims of record results for the automaker reference record third-quarter revenue, according to the union. The automaker disclosed in its quarterly update that the UAW strike has already cost it $800 million in lost production — prior to the Arlington disruption — including $200 million during the third quarter.

Fain acknowledged some union members want to vote on the offers the union bargainers have in hand. He urged UAW members not to give in to what he called "fear, uncertainty, doubt and division" sowed by the companies. More than 34,000 union members working at the three automakers are on strike since the walkouts began on Sept. 15. The demand included a 20% immediate increase, elimination of different pay scales among UAW workers and restoration of defined benefit pension plans. The GM offer "suggests we may be in the endgame," said University of California Berkeley labor professor Harley Shaiken.

GM's Flint, Michigan, heavy-duty truck assembly plant is another potential strike target. A newly remodeled Ford F250 Super Duty truck is displayed at the new Louisville Ford truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. September 30, 2016. UAW President Shawn Fain on Wednesday ordered a strike at Ford's Kentucky Truck factory after Ford negotiators did not present a richer contract proposal. About 4,600 Ford workers could be idled because their jobs depend on production of Super Duty pickups and large Lincoln and Ford SUVs at Kentucky Truck, said Ford manufacturing vice president Bryce Currie. Already, 13,000 workers at Ford suppliers have been furloughed because of earlier UAW walkouts at two Ford assembly plants, Ford supply chain chief Liz Door said. A newly remodeled Ford F250 Super Duty truck is displayed at the new Louisville Ford truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. September 30, 2016. Analysts at Wells Fargo estimated that Ford will lose about $150 million per week in core profit from the Kentucky plant strike. GM agreed to have the workers at its future EV battery plants be covered by the national labor agreement governing other UAW members at GM, Fain said, after the UAW threated an expansion of the strike to a GM plant in Arlington, Texas, that assembles the company’s full-sized SUVs. GM has in the past insisted that workers in battery facilities are not GM employees, since the plants are run by joint ventures it has with Asian battery companies. Then on September 29 the UAW declined to expand the strike against Stellantis, once again citing progress in talks, but added a strike against one assembly plant each at GM and Ford. The union has said all along it stood ready to expand the strike to increase pressure on the companies. Fain described the Arlington plant “GM’s biggest money maker.”“It was that threat that brought GM to the table,” he said.
